Speedway’s varsity girls basketball team hosts the Class 3A Sectional starting this evening. The Lady Sparkplugs (10-10) will play Beech Grove (9-12) in the opening game at 6 p.m. All Sectional 28 games will take place at the Morris Pollard Gymnasium.

Speedway defeated Beech Grove 52-28 in mid-January during ICC play. The Sparkplugs finished in a respectable third place in ICC play, losing to 2A Triton Central (17-4, 7-0 ICC) and 3A Cascade (20-2, 6-1 ICC). The Sparkplugs fell to the Cadets in the
regular season finale for both teams.

With a win Tuesday, the Sparkplugs would play Purdue Polytech (21-5) in a game among the two tournament favorites. The other three teams in the tournament field (Cardinal Ritter, George Washington, Christel House Manual) have a combined
12 wins between them.
