LAS VEGAS, NV — A stretch of southbound Interstate 15 in Clark County was closed early Friday after a rollover crash near the Valley of Fire Highway off-ramp left one driver dead. Nevada Highway Patrol said the crash happened just north of mile marker 75 at 3:54 a.m.

Troopers said the driver of a 2015 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on I-15 when the car left its lane while negotiating a curve and ran off the roadway into the center dirt median. The vehicle overturned, and the driver, who was not restrained, was ejected from the car.

According to investigators, the Toyota was moving southbound toward the Valley of Fire Highway off-ramp when the driver failed to maintain the travel lane. The car entered the median after leaving the paved roadway, and the rollover followed quickly.

Nevada Highway Patrol has not released information about why the driver lost control beyond the lane departure described in its preliminary account. Troopers said the crash scene was tied to the curve near the off-ramp, a location where drivers are asked to pay close attention to speed and lane position.

Driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene

Investigators said the driver was unrestrained at the time of the crash and was thrown from the Toyota during the rollover. The driver died from injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Authorities did not immediately release the driver’s name. No additional details about the victim were available Friday morning, and Nevada Highway Patrol said more information is expected after the preliminary investigation is completed.

Southbound traffic was diverted away from mile marker 75

The closure forced southbound I-15 traffic at mile marker 75 to shut down while investigators worked the scene. Drivers were diverted to the mile marker 91 exit ramp and routed to State Route 168 west.

From there, motorists could use SR 168 to reach U.S. 93 south and reconnect with southbound I-15. Troopers urged drivers to avoid the area while the investigation continued and traffic restrictions remained in place.

The detour directed traffic away from the crash site and through a longer route before returning to the interstate. Nevada Highway Patrol’s guidance was meant to keep vehicles clear of the closed stretch and reduce delays near the investigation zone.

Because the crash happened before dawn, many drivers encountered the closure at the start of the morning commute. Troopers said the shutdown remained in place for the investigation, but they did not give a timeline for reopening the road.

Nevada Highway Patrol said further information is expected after the preliminary investigation. That review will help determine more about how the collision unfolded and whether any additional factors were involved.

For now, the agency has confirmed only the basic sequence: the Toyota left the lane, crossed into the median, overturned and ejected the driver. Officials have asked motorists to continue avoiding the area until the scene is cleared.
