LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A U.S. Park Police officer riding a motorcycle was seriously hurt in a crash that forced the closure of Route 50 in Loudoun County for several hours Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies said the on-duty officer collided with a vehicle at the intersection of Little River Turnpike, also known as Route 50, and the Loudoun County Parkway around 1:45 p.m. The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials said the people in the other vehicle were not injured. The roadway later reopened.

Crash happened near a busy Route 50 intersection

The collision occurred at a major road junction that links Route 50 with Loudoun County Parkway and serves a heavily traveled part of the county. The location also prompted traffic disruption beyond the immediate crash scene.
