The Ben Davis girls pose with heir sectional championship trophy.

The Ben Davis girls and Brownsburg both travel to Decatur Central this Saturday to compete in the Class 4A Decatur Central regional. They are the only two teams from the west side of Indianapolis still alive in the state tournament.

The Giants beat Franklin Central 44-32 in the championship game of the Southport sectional. Ben Davis will play Mount Vernon in Saturday’s 4 p.m. game at Decatur.

Brownsburg won the Terre Haute South sectional with a 55-47 over neighborhood rival Avon. The lady Bulldogs play Lawrence North in Saturday’s 1 p.m. game.

The state tournament has a new format this year with only one game at regionals and then two games the following week at semistate. Semistate pairings will be announced Sunday.

“I like having to prepare for only one team this week,” BD veteran coach Stan Benge said. Benge is now No. 2 on the all-time win list for girls basketball in Indiana.
